Passive Voice

Passive voice

To know this , first we must understand what active voice is.

a.  Rama killed Ravana.

b.  Ravana was killed by Rama.

In  a. the sentence is in Active voice where it is in present tense, where the action of Ravana being killed by Rama (doer) is described. Here, Rama is the subject and the action of killing is secondary.

In b. the sentence is in Passive Voice, here the action is being focussed upon and not the doer, I;e more importance is given to the action than the doer, also it is in past tense.

So, it is clear that passive voice is used when the action has to be highlighted or when one has to be polite. E.g., You have made a mistake is rather impolite whereas A mistake has been made is considered polite.

Now, try these:

a.  Sita writes a letter.
b.  Sita wrote a letter.
c.  Sita has written a letter.
d.  Sita will write a letter.
e.  Sita can write a letter.

Please, post the answers by Friday night or Saturday Morn. I'll post the correct answers by Saturday night.

GOD's little helper. :-))
